Mahashmashana is the sixth studio album by American musician Father John Misty (real name Josh Tillman).
The title of the album, “Mahashmashana,” comes from a Sanskrit word. It means “great cremation ground.” This reflects the album’s themes of death, rebirth, and the cyclical nature of existence.
The album was produced by Tillman and Drew Erickson. It was Released through Sub Pop and Bella Union.
Mahashmashana continues Father John Misty’s tradition. It blends folk and soft rock influences with orchestral arrangements. The album features Tillman’s distinctive voice and lyrics.
