Most metalcore fans know Jesse Cash for his quick guitar fingers and clean, penetrating vocals for the band Erra; but did you know he also has been releasing music for the past ten years under the name Ghost Atlas? Leaning into alternative-rock, Cash blessed his fans with a new album Dust Of The Human Shape back in January.
Cash described the album as “uncomfortably personal”, which is very true. Dust Of The Human Shape feels raw and intimate, almost like he ripped out pages of his diary and shared them with the world. Cash talked about how he pushed himself to build an album that he felt proud to release. Originally, he had eight whole songs that he ended up scrapping and only three of those were revived and revamped to become a part of the album.
One of the tracks that I immediately gravitated towards is ‘Panorama Daydream’. The song opens with a glimmering guitar riff that grabs your attention right away. The layers of different riffs add so much more depth.
‘Gaps In The Armoire’ was the last song to come out before the release of the album. “Why are you so familiar / I can’t put a name to the feeling / Why am i so afraid / Of what I picture myself losing / I was taking hits of you again / Building up a tolerance / You don’t get me high anymore” – Cash almost yells in frustration, while battling with who or what is causing problems for him.
‘Riding The Blindside’ holds a bit of a more prominent bass, flowing seamlessly with the guitar and drums. Cash walks the listeners through being so addicted to someone that he can’t be without them, he begs for their love to kill him rather than just having the courage to leave.
Dust Of The Human Shape is an album spilling with twinkly and clean cut guitar riffs, pretty melodies, and vocals that tear through and are fueled by passion and emotion. Cash has a whiney edge to his voice and mixed with the catchy choruses, it’s an album with no skips.
