This past Thursday, Carnifex brought their Necromanteum II Tour to Minneapolis at the Varsity Theater. They were joined by a group of extraordinary bands. These bands spanned different metal subgenres, including slam metal, black metal, and death metal. Giving everyone in attendance a smorgasbord of brutality and excitement.

Organectomy brought the house down with their explosive performance. They set off the night with their unique blend of slam and death metal. Front-man Alex Paul led Organectomy. They commanded the attention of the crowd. The band did not relent their onslaught from start to finish. The boys from New Zealand showed why they are one of the most brutal bands in the game. Songs like โ€œConcreteโ€ and โ€œTerror Formโ€ shook Varsity Theater with endless blast beats, double bass, and gruesome vocals to match. Circle and push pits broke out among the battle vest clad attendees. These pits set the bar for the rest of the show.

Mental Cruelty continued to escalate the high energy set by Organectomy. The German band treated the crowd to their unique sound which combines black metal, symphonic metal, and deathcore. From the moment the band set foot on the stage, their chemistry was visible. It was also palpable as they performed โ€œObsessis a Daemonio.โ€ They took everyone on a journey down the left hand path. The dissonant chords of the guitar stood out. The blazing fast drums added intensity. Lukas Nicolai’s shrieking vocals left everyone’s hair standing on end.

The night went on with the death metal titans Cryptopsy taking the stage next. Their set showcased world-class technical prowess and brutal energy. Standout moments included their iconic tracks “Slit Your Guts” and “Phobophile.” The band’s intricate guitar riffs captivated the audience. Guttural vocals had them in a frenzy. People were headbanging and moshing throughout the night. Cryptopsy’s ability to connect with fans, both old and new, cemented their status as death metal royalty.

Carnifexโ€™s live performance at Varsity Theater was nothing short of spectacular. Scott Lewisโ€™s guttural vocals paired with Shawn Cameronโ€™s precise drumming had the crowd in the palm of their hands. The energy was infectious, and you felt the intensity with every breakdown and riff. Tracks like โ€œHell Chose Meโ€ and โ€œDrown Me in Bloodโ€ had the audience screaming along and moshing fervently. As well as performing some of the early deathcore era classics like โ€œSlit Wrist Saviorโ€ and โ€œLie to My Faceโ€. Scott slowed things down a bit before performing โ€œCrowned in Everblack.โ€ He dedicated the song to the late legend Trevor Strnad of The Black Dahlia Murder. Overall it wasnโ€™t just a concert, it was a cathartic experience. Fans left drenched in sweat, but with smiles plastered across their faces. Carnifexโ€™s performance is an unmissable experience that truly showcases their raw power and their status in the deathcore scene.
