Miami natives Magic City Hippies rocked the Paradise Rock Club in Boston, MA on Friday, January 20th. Combining funk-inspired bass riffs with staple sounds of electronic psychedelic pop gives them a staple sound that’s addicting to listen to and proved to be even better live. They’ve been together since 2015, evolving from playing music on the streets to playing festivals and headlining a major North American tour.

Their set was preceded by CAPYAC, an eccentric electronic band that set an energetic tone for the rest of the show. It was apparent that they refrain from taking themselves too seriously, which adds a quirkiness to their performance that intrigues and engages audiences. Their crowd interactions were not only funny, but they caught the attention of the crowd as they entered the venue.

From original songs off their latest album, Water Your Garden, to their cover of Elton John’s iconic “Bennie and the Jets,” the headlining set never dragged or had a single dull moment. Stage presence is everything, and that of the Magic City Hippies was fitting for a venue much larger than Paradise. They have an energy and confidence that just can’t be contained, and it’s bound to bring them to increasingly larger venues in the future.

The band also had a clear dedicated fanbase, as the pre-show line continued to stretch down the block well after the doors opened. People even stopped to pose with the band’s name on the marquee on the sidewalk. From light-up hats to LED-lined sunglasses, fans of the band were beyond ready to show their support. Both general admission levels felt and looked full of people ready to enjoy a good rock show.

Magic City Hippies will wrap up their winter tour this Sunday, March 5th at the White Oak Music Hall in Houston Texas, if you didn’t get a chance to catch them on this tour, make sure not to miss them on their next one!
