Arriving late to the show, I missed nearly all of the opening act Save Face from New Jersey. The band has been around since 2012, appearing at festivals like SxSw and Riot Fest as well as touring with bands like The Wonder Years, Spanish Love Songs, and Bayside. Their latest record, “Another Kill for the Highlight Reel” was released on Epitaph in October of 2021.
The few songs that I did see were energetic and theatrical. The members, wearing identical jumpsuits, gave an energetic, passionate, and theatrical performance.
Microwave, a band I had somehow missed out on, played next. The crowd loved every minute of their set, singing along to each song. The band has been together since 2012, touring with acts like The Wonder Years, Jimmy Eat World, and Motion City Soundtrack. Their latest release, “Death Is a Warm Blanket” on Pure Noise Records came out in 2019.
The quartet gave a powerful performance that ignited the crowd and set the stage for their label mates, Four Year Strong.
Hailing from Worcester, MA, Four Year Strong’s current tour is in celebration of their record, “Enemy of the World” which debuted at number 47 on the Billboard 200 upon its release in 2010. Their most recent release, “Brain Pain” was released in 2020 on Pure Noise Records.
The band launched into the first track, “It Must Really Suck to Be Four Year Strong Right Now” igniting a mosh pit and crowd surfers. The band members’ musical abilities mesh perfectly with each other, from the technical guitar work to the double bass during breakdowns, and the vocal harmonies between members. The group played the album in its entirety, remarking just prior to the song “One Step At a Time” that, after writing and recording the song, this would be only the sixth time ever that they’ve played it live. The band worked the crowd expertly, encouraging singalongs while never losing an ounce of steam throughout the duration of their set.
The tour continues through late November and is highly recommended for fans of the band NOT to miss this one!
