▣Boston City Winery | Boston, MA                            ▣Monday, May 21st 2018

Myles Kennedy made a stop in his hometown of Boston Massachusetts, in support of his new album, Year of the Tiger. The album is is his first as a solo artist. Kennedy is best known for being the lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist of the rock band Alter Bridge, and the lead vocalist in guitarist Slash’s backing band, known as Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators. Kennedy’s first world tour commenced in North America, before making stops in Europe. The Year of the Tiger Tour was well on its way, which brings us to the intimate night at the Boston City Winery.

First, let me describe the venue, since it was my first time there. The place felt higher scale then most venues I am used to, with a lounge and bar as soon as you walk in. After check in you are seated in a large rectangular room with a small stage at one end. I don’t know  if the seats closer to the stage where more expensive or not, but they definitely were more valuable and special as they were able to experience the show within inches of Kennedy.

MK9The show started early, and lights went out promptly at 8:20 pm. Kennedy received a nice welcome and with a quick hello he took us into Devil On The Wall, off of the new album, Year of the Tiger. Continuing with, Standing in the Sun, he asked the crowd to clap along, and everyone started to clap along. At the end, the venue was filled with an uproar of cheers and it set the tone for the night’s performance.

There were a lot of great moments, filled with stories shared by Kennedy. He told the crowd he was born in a hospital just down the road, and how he remembered growing up in Wakefield as as kid. He shared a couple of stories of his collaborations with Slash. And even took a request from a fan that he had met earlier during his meet & greet. It was a special night for the Boston crowd.

During his set, which lasted about 1 hour and 40 minutes, he covered songs from Alter Bridge, Slash featuring Myles Kennedy and the Conpirators, and The Mayfield Four. He had us clapping and singing along to the Iron Maiden cover of, The Trooper. And during the Elton John cover of Levon, he had us in tears.

Kennedy closed the show with Love Can Only Heal, and brought out his tour manager and music collaborator, Tim Tournier, for Year of The Tiger. It was an emotional roller coaster, filled with amazing music and stories.

At the end, Kennedy thanked the crowd and received a standing ovation as cheers filled the venue for the rock god. He then took the time to shake the hands of the audience up front before exiting the stage.

Kennedy is so passionate and genuinely happy to be doing what he does, the feeling is contagious. Charismatic beyond words, he is truly an inspiration to his fans. The man is not only an amazing guitar player, singer, entertainer, but above all, a good human being. And that’s something we can all appreciate.

Make sure to check out this tour, and if you haven’t already listen to his new album, Year of the Tiger. I highly recommended it!
